Fundraiser for Straide native who suffered life-changing injuries in farming accident

An online fundraiser for a Straide native who suffered life-changing injuries, has seen over €82,000 raised in a matter of days of being set up.

The campaign was set up after Castlebar based father-of-three, Patrick McDonnell, suffered life-changing injuries in a farming accident last month, which required him to be airlifted to University College Hospital Galway where he underwent surgery to save his life, but he suffered significant injuries.

The fundraising page explains: "Patrick is a much-loved member of the Castlebar, Straide and Foxford communities – GAA coach, member of the Search and Rescue club, Mayo County Council employee and devoted husband to Aishling and father to Cian, Conor and Eabha.

"For so many of us who have found ourselves in a spot of bother over the years, with a problem big or small, Patrick has been our first port of call, always on the other end of the phone to give a dig-out in whatever way possible, no questions asked.

"With this in mind, we, Patrick’s friends and colleagues, have decided to set up this page to raise funds to help with the costs of his recovery over the coming months and years.

"For those of us who know Patrick, we know that the sooner he gets back up and active, the better - for everyone! His family would like to sincerely thank everyone for all of the support, hot meals, kind words and well wishes – your encouragement and kindness has helped carry them through this difficult time."
