Ballina man takes on Ironman triathlon at home

Stephen Donnelly is going to complete a full Ironman distance triathlon from my home tomorrow, Friday, May 1 to fundraise for his local Meals on Wheels group in Ballina and also Mayo University Hospital Covid-19 fund for patients and staff.

Explaining what he will be doing to complete the Ironman Stephen said: "I will be swimming in a XL skip that im fortunate to have got sponsored by Loftus Recycling. I will be attached to a swim band while swimming, this makes measuring the distance a bit tricky so I've decided instead of trying to measure I will swim for 60mins - this would be close to my slowest ironman swim to date.

"On the bike I will be using zwift to track my bike split. I will also set up a meet up for 8.10am so if anyone that rides on Zwift is interested in riding a portion of the bike with me, that would be great! if for some reason I lose internet or zwift crashes, I will ride for 5hrs.

"For the run I will be running the Marathon on my treadmill. As this is a charity event the goal for this day is to raise as much money as possible for my chosen charities.

"We will be live streaming the event on my facebook page so if you have a little time on your hands and want to see me suffer tune in I'm hoping not to feel to bad too early."
