The picturesque view of the Atlantic Ocean crashing against the rugged shores of Inishturk, from the Inishturk Community Centre on Monday, was the perfect setting for the launch of two walks on the island by Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Joe Mellet.
A glossy new brochure which was launched alongside the loop walks highlights the 5km Lough Coolaknick Loop walk and the 8km Mountain Common Loop walk on the island which is located just nine miles off the west coast of Mayo and is easily accessible by ferry from Roonagh Pier.
Chairperson of the Inishturk Community Council Bernard Heanue thanked Mayo County Council, the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht affairs, FÁS, Fáilte Ireland and local community schemes for their assistance in establishing and promoting these new walks, while Cllr Mellett also commended everyone involved, especially the council’s full time walking officer Anna O’Connor.
