A Mayo based team of skilled machinists who are used to making costumes for community festivals, dramas and musicals, have changed their focus to making masks and gowns that can be worn by the community volunteers and healthcare workers providing vital services at this time.
The team at Ballina Costume Company have launched a Go Fund Me campaign to raise money to make masks and gowns in the battle against Covid-19; you can make a donation online at https://tinyurl.com/y9wnlra3.
Jane Crean is organising the fundraising and explained: "Our team of skilled machinists are used to making costumes for community festivals, dramas and musicals.
"Our focus has changed now with the Covid-19 crisis. We would like to be able to support our frontline workers, as well as neighbours and friends that are working hard delivering Meals on Wheels and shopping for people that are cocooning or self-isolating.
"We want to make masks and gowns that can be worn by the community volunteers and healthcare workers who are providing these vital services at this time.
"We do not have the right kind of material in stock and will have to purchase it. We are a small social enterprise and do not have the money available to purchase what is needed at this time. We will be making these for the services in Mayo. We know that people are being asked a lot to contribute to fundraising efforts and would appreciate any help you can give no matter how small."
