Man gets prison and fine for dangerous driving

A Latvian man with a number of previous driving convictions was given two terms of 28 days in prison to be served consecutively following a conviction for dangerous driving and other driving offences at Claremorris District Court this week.

Petetis Liseckis, 4 College Road, Boyle, Co Roscommon was reported to the Gardaí by a member of the public for dangerous driving on a road outside Claremorris on September 12 2008 at 5.30pm where she witnessed him driving at high speed and carrying out handbrake turns in the middle of the road.

Garda John Doherty told the court that a call was received at the station reporting the incident at 5.30pm and at 11.25pm that night he spotted the car driving into a car park in the town and he spoke to the driver, who admitted to driving the car at the time the report of dangerous driving was received at the station. Garda Doherty also stated that there was no tax, insurance or NCT on the car.

For dangerous driving Judge Devins convicted and fined Liseckis €1,000, disqualified him from driving for three years and sentenced him to 28 days in prison. For having no insurance she convicted and fined him €1,000 and disqualified him from driving for one year to be served concurrently and sentenced him to 28 days in prison to be served consecutively. For failing to produce insurance he was fined €50, for having no driving licence he was fined €170, for not producing his driving licence he was fined €50, for non display of NCT he was fined €50, for having no NCT he was fined €150, for having no motor tax he was fined €300 and for non display of tax he was fined €50.
