Gardai recover stolen equipment from local radio station
Gardai on Tuesday evening recovered a number of items of equipment that was stolen after a break-in at the headquarters of Midwest Radio in Ballyhaunis on Monday night. The station's offices and outside broadcast unit were broken into on Monday night and a substantial amount of property was taken including laptops, a camera, microphones, headphones and other radio equipment.
Unstamped cigarettes seized in Bohola
Gardaí in Claremorris seized a quantity of unstamped cigarettes at Bohola, as part of a Covid-19 checkpoint last week. The seizure was made as part of the Claremorris Community Engagement area’s response to Covid-19. A car was stopped at the Covid-19 checkpoint at Bohola where enquiries were made into the purpose of the driver’s movements. Subsequently the car was searched and approximately 20,000 cigarettes were located. The cigarettes represent an approximate loss to the exchequer of €10,600. Revenue has been notified and is pursuing this investigation.
Five year plan for Cill Chomáin
Comhar Dún Chaocháin Teo is in the process of preparing a five-year development plan (2021-2025 ) for the parish of Cill Chomáin. In keeping with the key objectives of the organisation, the plan will seek to: (1 ) Preserve and promote the Irish language and culture in every aspect of community life; (2 ) Develop in an integrated and sustainable way the natural and human resources of the area and (3 ) Promote the development of necessary amenities and services. Seachtain na Gaelige competition winners from Erris
Gaeilge san Iarnóin were lucky to have celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge before lockdown! Many thanks to the teachers and pupils of Scoil Chroí Mhuire Gan Smál, Belmullet, for participating in our Seachtain na Gaeilge competition. The competition had two strands – an essay competition for the Senior pupils and a colouring competition for the junior pupils. The theme of the competition was biodiversity and it was based on the biodiversity workshops in which the children had participated during the past year.
They were delighted with all entries for the competition and want to offer their thanks to Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia, Erris Chamber of Commerce and Belmullet Tidy Towns for supporting this project.They wish to also thank Caoimhín Ó'Suilleabháin (Léachtóir Diplóma sa Ghaeilge ) and to the team in Áras Inis Gluaire who judged the competition. The prize-giving took place in the school on March 12 – just before the school closed. The winners of the competitions were: Eileen Wu (Colouring competition ), essay competition: Caoimhe O’Donnell (Second Class ), Katie Shevlin (First Class ), Alba Coppens (Senior Infants ), and Maja Kurdyn (Junior Infants ).
