Counselling grants approved for local organisations

A number of north Mayo based organisations are to benefit from funding under the Department of Social and Family Affairs Scheme of Grants for marriage, Child and Bereavement Counselling, according to Mayo FF TD Dara Calleary.

The Ballina-based Deputy announced that five organisations in the Ballina/Foxford area have been sanctioned funding by Minister Hanafin.

“Grants to organisations dealing with marriage and relationships also helps fund marriage preparation courses for couples planning to marry, as well as support for families dealing with relationship breakdown.

The bereavement grants fund services that provide counselling to children and adults whilst the child counselling grants supports groups involved with counselling for children from violent homes and child counselling by some youth services,” explained Deputy Calleary.

“I am delighted that Hope House in Foxford has been allocated €55,000 with a further €11,000 being divided between the Ballina Carers’ Association (€2,000 ), Ballina Family Resource Centre (€6,000 ), Lacken Bereavement Support Group (€2,000 ) and Rainbows Parkside CDP (€1,000 ). Each of these organisations is carrying out essential work within their communities and this funding will help them to maintain and develop their services,” he added.
