Celebrated sculptor John Behan is the latest artist to put up a piece of his work for an art auction being organised by the Chernobyl Children’s Project Westport Group which will take place on Friday, May 1 at the Clew Bay Hotel starting at 7.30pm.
The art auction is the backbone of a fundraising May Bank Holiday weekend of Art 4 Hope being organised by the Chernobyl group. Already, the best of Westport’s artistic community including John Brady, Breda Burns, Helga Kaffe, Jimmy Lawlor, Liam Lyons, Ger Sweeney, Dermot Seymour, Derek McGowan, Alice Maher, Brigitte Grothe Neumann, and Seosaimh Ó Dálaigh have committed work to the auction. Funds raised from the auction will go towards the Chernobyl group’s aim to raise €50,000 to build a Home of Hope for children in Belarus.
In addition, the group is selling Bricks 4 Hope, providing an opportunity for all budding artists to make their individual mark on specially designed cardboard bricks on Saturday, May 2 at the Westport Leisure Park between 1pm and 5pm. The individually designed bricks will be used to build a cardboard Home of Hope in the centre of Westport.
