The newest person to enter the race for one of the nine seats on Castlebar Town Council is Eddie Kimpwene. Eddie has lived in Castlebar for the past nine years and runs a recruitment agency in Thomas Street in the town. Kimpwene says he is standing for the election on a platform of hope and believes Castlebar should dwell on the positive issues in our time; to tackle the challenges and to work tirelessly to rebuild what we have lost and to build on the many great foundations that have been laid in Castlebar.
The key issues that Eddie wishes to see addressed if elected are employment, health services, curbing anti-social behaviour, promotion of tourism, and the improvement of sport, leisure, and multicultural services.
If elected the main issue Eddie wants to target is employment. As this is his area of expertise he says he will use his experience to support existing businesses who give valuable employment in every way possible. He will also support every initiative to promote the town in order to attract new businesses.
Eddie has been a member of Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, participated in a Oireachtas debate in 2004, is a founding member of Mayo Intercultural Action, and the chairperson of the African community in Mayo.
