Mayo Ladies Volleyball have maintained their winning National Volleyball League run as they defeated Ballymun in Kiltimagh.
At the beginning the Dubliners left the home side with a gargantuan effort to make as they steam-rolled to an early 8-0 lead. Mayo struggled defensively but after making some changes, they vastly improved their passing game and fought back with a close 25-22 win at the opening set.
In the second set, Mikal O'Boyle and Edel Nolan scored many tips from the middle, which kept the home side at arms length of their opponents throughout. This, combined with great passing from Adriana Slovakova and Hilde Kneblewski, resulted in a comfortable 25-17 win for the red and green.
Mayo made it a clean sweep however as they won the third set. After building a commanding lead, Ballymun fought back to 22-22 but the Westerners found their resolve and saw it out 25-23, the winning score, a thunder-bolt ace from a Paulina Balik-Nowak serve.
Mayo won the match 3-0. Mayo's next match is a blitz of games in St Louis School sports hall in Kiltimagh on March 7, where they play both Aer Lingus and Tallaght.
