Motorsport: Mayo Stages

Last Friday, February 21 saw Mayo and District Motorsport Club launch the TF Royal Hotel & Theatre/ Casey’s & Mulroy’s Londis Castlebar Mayo Stages Rally 2020.

The launch took place in the TF Royal Hotel - also rally headquarters for the rally weekend, which takes place on the weekend of Friday, March 6 to Sunday, March 8.

Clerk of the Course, David Breen, welcomed all in attendance and thanked the joint title sponsors - Pat Jennings of the TF Royal Hotel & Theatre, Gerry Casey (Casey’s Londis ) and Alan Mulroy (Mulroy’s Londis ) for coming on board for this year’s event.

This year the Mayo Stages Rally is the opening round of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship in addition to also being the opening round of the Sligo Pallets Border Rally Championship. Andrew Mullen, CEO of Sligo Pallets, who sponsor the championship, was in attendance as was Brendan Flynn, Border Championship rep, who travelled from Monaghan for the launch.

The Mayo Stages Rally is one of the largest annual sporting events in the county, attracting thousands of visitors every March and Mayo and District Motorsport Club are looking forward to another successful event this year.

John Mulroy, President of Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, addressed the gathering and said the local businesses were delighted to see the rally return to Castlebar and wished David and his team well in the lead-up to the rally.

In keeping with past launches there was a static rally car display at the hotel and the rain eased off long enough for the compulsory photoshoot outside with the cars. The TF Royal Hotel and Theatre/Casey’s & Mulroy’s Londis (Castlebar ) Mayo Stages Rally 2020 takes place on Sunday, March 8.

Competing crews will start to arrive in Castlebar from Friday, March 6. Spectators will get an opportunity to see the cars and crews at scrutiny on Saturday March 7, between 3pm and 8pm; and service on Sunday, March 8, between 9am and 4pm.
