The Mayo senior hurlers will see their National Hurling League season come to a conclusion on Sunday when they make a journey to Navan to take on Meath in round five of the competition.
Last weekend Mayo succumbed to their fourth defeat of the season with Offaly running out 5-29 to 1-13 winners in the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan. While Mayo will be disappointed to have lost by such a heavy score to the Leinster men - they will be looking to use the tough lessons learned in this year's league campaign as a solid building block for their championship season, which throws in in May.
Sunday's game will give them their last competitive outing until their Nicky Rackard Cup opener on the second weekend in May, when they will welcome Warrickshire to the county. Meath have just the one league win under their belts this season, having seen off Wicklow 2-25 to 3-18 in round two and last weekend they were well beaten themselves, with Antrim seeing them off 5-27 to 1-15 in Portglenone.
Mayo have managed to hit 1-13 in their last two games and they will be aiming to increase on that return in front of the posts on Sunday in Navan, while they will have to hope they can really tighten things up at the back, having conceded such a big score last weekend and in total have seen 12-88 put past them in their four outings to date, while they have only managed to put up 2-46 on the other side of the scoreboard in those four games so far this season.
Staying in Division 2A last season was a major achievement for the Mayo hurlers and while they will be disappointed with how this season has gone so far, they will be firmly focused on making their way out of the Nicky Rackard Cup this season and getting back to the Christy Ring Cup for the 2021 season. Mayo's Rackard Cup campaign will open up with the visit of Warrickshire over the weekend of May 9/10 and they will follow that up with a trip to Monaghan in round two, before they take on Tyrone at home in round three.
