What’s on at the Linenhall

In the coming weeks, a host of diverse events will place at the Linenhall Arts Centre, to include a theatrical treat by John McManus, in the form of An Ogeous Brose.

Taking place on Thursday, February 27 at 8pm, this production is scary and funny in equal measure, and a rib-tickling, spine-chilling adventure. Presented by Big Guerilla Productions, a grumpy builder, (Seamus O’Rourke ) and his young Shakira-loving labourer (Charlie McGuinness ) arrive on Mogue’s Island to dig a grave in the depths of winter. It’s cold and eerie and full of myth. The more they dig, the more they realise that this was not such a good idea – could it be that they are both entangled in an ancient curse?

Music Network

Music Network presents Garth Knox’s ‘Saltarello Trio’ at the Linenhall on Monday, March 2 at 8pm. The trio consists of Garth Knox (medieval fiddle, viola d’amore and viola ), Sylvain Lemêtre (percussion ) and Agnès Vesterman (cello ). Combining their collective and vast experience of classical and contemporary music with the textures and colors of folk music, the trio fuses all three styles to inform the tour’s witty arrangements. With swirling string lines and tasty percussion to open a new window on old music, the trio proves that a good tune can speak easily to all of us.

Cinema at the Linenhall

Two cinematic delights will also be showcased at The Linenhall in the next few weeks, The Souvenir (Tuesday, February 25 at 8pm ) written and directed by Joanna Hogg, features Julie, a shy film student from a privileged background, who wants to use her work to better understand the realities of the world. When she meets the older and mysterious Anthony, Julie finds herself caught up in her first serious love affair. Featuring a breakout performance from Honor Swinton-Byrne, The Souvenir is refreshingly honest and beautifully devastating.

Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love, will be showen on Wednesday, March 3 at 8pm and is a beautiful yet tragic love story between Leonard Cohen and his Norwegian muse Marianne Ihlen. The film follows their relationship from the early days on Hydra in the 1960s, a humble time of ‘free love’ and open marriage, to how their love evolved when Leonard became a successful musician.
