Mayo made it two wins from three in their rearranged Ladies National Football League clash with Waterford last Sunday in Swinford, running out 0-6 to 0-2 winners during a weather-hit clash.
Mayo played against a gale in the first half but managed to go in level at the break thanks to a brace of points from Rachel Kearns and in the second half they managed to hold their visitors scoreless, to add four more points to their tally, thanks to two more points from Kearns and points from Sinead Cafferkey and Natasha Gaughan.
That win moved Peter Leahy's side into second place in the table after three games, level on points with near neighbours Galway and three points off table toppers Cork, who they will visit this weekend.
Last weekend along with Kearns, who led the way on the scoreboard, there were big performances from the likes of Maria Reilly, Norin Moran, Allannah Duffy, Ciara Whyte, Kathryn Sullivan and Danielle Caldwell.
Cork are the defending league champions and so far this season they have seen off Westmeath, Tipperary and most impressively Dublin in their last league outing a fortnight ago. They got the upper hand over the All Ireland champions in that game, winning a tight battle 0-8 to 1-4 in Croke Park with Orla Finn kicking five points and Hannah Looney chipping in with two as they held off a late fight back by the Dubs to pick up their third win of the season.
