This year’s Manchester Irish Festival website has once again teamed up with the Mayo County Council Diaspora website www.mayo.ie to help promote this years’ 2020 Mayo Day - a global celebration of all things Mayo-related and scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 2, all over the world.
The Manchester Irish Festival will be opening its 25th annual Irish Festival by flying over The Ganley Sisters from Mayo to appear in its ‘Young, Gifted and Green’ anniversary show on Saturday, March 7.
Tickets for this show are almost sold out and all profits will be donated to The Christie Cancer Hospital charity. Tickets can be purchased from www.manchesteririshfestival.co.uk
The performers are part of the annual award-winning Mayo Manchester Tradfest. Other performers will include The Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band; Trad Musicians: John Gibson, Fidelma O’Brien and Mairead Hussey and Moor Irish, along with the Keegan Academy of Irish Dance. Alan Keegan the voice of Old Trafford from Manchester United Football Club, will be hosting the event.
The award-winning dancers are also staging a series of ‘Jiving’ and ‘Sean Nos’ Dancing workshops on Sunday March 8 at St Skent’s Irish Club as part of ‘The Creative Mayo’ weekend in Manchester.

Chief Executive of Mayo County Council, Peter Hynes commented on the initiative, saying: "Mayo Day 2020 is about cherishing our culture and giving people the chance to show their pride of place. It is an opportunity to celebrate what lies at the heart of County Mayo and its people – a natural passion for creativity; whether it be in the arts, music, business, or any other creative endeavour.”

It is about uniting people at home and abroad who all share one thing in common – a love of their county. Over the last number of years, we have seen huge participation from the Mayo diaspora, and we would love to see #MayoDay trending on social media once again this year, to show the world how proud the people of this county are of their heritage.”
