Ballyhaunis Youth Service, Foróige, will officially launch its service on Friday, February 21, in the Parochial Hall, Ballyhaunis.
The key note speaker on the day, Professor Ursula Kilkelly from University College Cork, will officially open the newly named youth service – The BEY Project.
The youth service has been in operation since June 2018 and works with young people between 10-24 years of age, offering a wide variety of services such as programme based activities, educational support, individual work, school holiday initiatives, and also a professional counselling service two days per week.
Ballyhaunis Youth Service is operated by Foróige, the National Youth Development Organisation and is funded by Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education Training Board.
Laura Cox, Senior Youth Officer with Ballyhaunis Youth Service explained: "Over the past two years we have seen the project develop a strong foothold in the heart of the community thanks to the positive attitude, drive and enthusiasm of young people, volunteers and staff. The official launch of the service will be a fantastic opportunity for all involved to showcase their work and to also celebrate what has been achieved to date."
A spokesperson for Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board said they are delighted to be part of the creation and development of Ballyhaunis Youth Service, adding: "It is great to see so many young people from all different countries and backgrounds participating in this project. We look forward to working with Foróige in the coming years in supporting this new service for young people in the Ballyhaunis area."
