Ballina councillors defer decision on 50-home development again

The elected members of the Ballina Municipal District deferred making a decision on granting Part Eight Planning Permission for a 50-dwelling development at Rehins Fort in Ballina for another month - at their January meeting this week.

At the start of the monthly meeting, Cathaoirleach Cllr Michael Loftus suspended standing orders for ten minutes so that elected members and officials could meet with two of the representatives from the local residents' association to speak about their concerns in private. Over 30 local residents were in attendance at the meeting in the council chamber.

The meeting was suspended at 10.46am and resumed at 11.16am and when it resumed, Cllr Loftus told the meeting that a decision on the issue at hand was going to be deferred until the February meeting of the council, so that further talks and discussions between the residents' association, councillors and council officials could take place, to try and allay the fears local residents have about the development.
