Eleven Mayo sides will have home advantage in either the Connacht Cup or Connacht Shield this weekend, with action in the third round of the cup and round one of the shield down for decision.
Fresh from their dramatic 3-2 win over Doolan's Cow FC in Cork last Sunday in the sixth round of the FAI Junior Cup, Westport United will be on the road again on Sunday when they travel to take on Sligo -Leitrim Super League side, Merville United, on Sunday afternoon. United will be confident of booking their place in the fourth round of the competition against a side who currently sit in ninth place in their division.
Manulla will be looking to shake off the disappointment of going out of the FAI Junior Cup 5-4 to Athenry after extra-time, having led 3-0 at half time against the Galway side. They will be facing more Galway opposition when Mervue United come to Carramore on Sunday afternoon. The visitors to Manulla currently sit in top of the Galway Premier Division with eight wins from their nine league games to date.
Super League champions, Castlebar Celtic, will be hitting the road to south Galway to take on Loughrea Rams who are currently in fifth place in the top table of soccer in Galway, having won four of their 12 league games to date.
There are two Mayo derbies down for decision also with Ballyheane hosting Snugboro United and Ballyhaunis Town making the trip to Partry Athletic. Super League new boys, Swinford, will be upping their preparation for the domestic season ahead when they host Galway Premier Division outfit Corrib Celtic and Ballina Town will be at home to Sligo side, Glenview Stars.
The other Mayo top flight sides in action will see Claremorris host Carrick Town, Ballyglass head to Kilkerrin United, while the other promoted side for the new season, Glenhest Rovers, will be at home to Athenry B in the shield competition.
