Michael Ring TD, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, has confirmed that the Glencorrib/Kilroe community has been allocated €71,250 through his Department’s LEADER Programme.
The funding being announced today will support the installation of a walkway with lighting around the community pitch at Glencorrib/Kilroe Community Field, and to replace large conifer trees with a biodiversity hedge.
Minister Ring said: "I’m delighted that this funding is being provided to the Glencorrib/Kilroe Community through my Department’s LEADER Programme. This will provide a wonderful amenity for the local community and will encourage people to be active.
"The provision of lighting will ensure that this facility can be used year round and will prove especially beneficial during the long winter evenings. This is an excellent investment in people’s physical and mental health and wellbeing.
"I urge communities in Mayo to avail of the supports available through the LEADER Programme. So far, I have announced funding of almost €6.4 million to 156 communities and enterprises in Mayo during this LEADER cycle.
"As for all LEADER 2014 – 2020 funding applications, interested applicants should contact the LAG in the relevant LEADER sub-regional area in the first instance. LAG contact details can be found at http://drcd.gov.ie/wp-content/uploads/list-of-LAGs.pdf."
