St Gerald’s centenary committee launches major fundraising drive

On May 7 next, St Gerald’s College centenary committee brings the hugely popular Who wants to be a Thousandaire to the Royal Theatre, Castlebar. This show has attracted large audiences all over Ireland over the past seven years and is fast becoming the most popular source of fundraising for schools and clubs. Contestants are drawn from ticket sales and each contestant will play for €1,000. The show is fully computerised with 50/50, ask the audience and a brilliant video linked phone a friend. The questions and four possible answers and displayed on two 8ft x 6ft screens, one at each side of the stage.

This incredibly successful show, which is provided Pallas Marketing Ltd, is being run by St Gerald’s College centenary committee to assist in fundraising for the centenary celebrations which are to take place over the October bank holiday weekend. The launch night included representatives from the major sponsors Castlebar Credit Union, De Burca Rare Books, Elverys, Hibernia College, Kamer Construction, Property Partners Durcan, Sean McGuinness & Sons and Season Master and Louise Boland from Pallas Marketing (show providers ). The first ticket for the event was purchased by Mr Paddy Kilroy, the oldest living past pupil of St Gerald’s College.

“We have been in contact with several others groups who ran Who wants to be a Thousandaire shows around the country with great success. We are all looking forward to a great night on May 7 as the show is really hi-tech and offers a superb night’s entertainment. The show is timed to start at 8.30pm and we would encourage people to come early to ensure a seat,” said Mr Sean Burke, school principal.

Tickets for Who wants to be a Thousandaire are available from any member of the fundraising committee or at the door on the night.
