Man who paid speeding fine but failed to produce insurance banned

A Westport man who was stopped for speeding and paid his fine but failed to produce his insurance and driving licence within 10 days was disqualified from driving for a year at Castlebar District Court this week.

Simon Ferrins, Kilscallagh, Louisburgh, was stopped by Garda John Cahalin for driving at 82kmph in a 50kmph zone at Knockaphunta, Castlebar at 11.25pm on November 4 2008. Ferrins was issued with a fixed penalty notice which he later paid and ordered to produce his driving licence and insurance at a Garda station within 10 days which he failed to do.

The court was told that Ferrins had a previous conviction from Westport District Court for failing to produce his licence and insurance on March 19 2009. Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Ferrins €750 for not having insurance and disqualified him from driving for one year. She also convicted and fined him €50 for failure to produce his insurance.
