The Neale go hunting for provincial final spot

GAA: Connacht Club IFC Semi-Final

All roads lead north for the men from The Neale on Saturday when they take on Sligo champions Geevagh - with a place in the Connacht Intermediate Football Final up for grabs.

The newly minted Mayo champions will have celebrated their historic first title at that grade in Mayo heartily over the past few weeks, but it is back to business now for the border men.

They will face a tough test against a Geevagh side who dispatched of Bunninadden 2-16 to 3-5 in the Sligo final, thanks to a blistering second half showing that saw them lead by 11 points going into injury time - only for a late Bunninadden goal to cut the gap back to eight at the end of the contest.

The Neale will be on a high after a thrilling win in the Mayo final - where Sean Cosgrove's late, late point edged them home in injury time. That score capped a marvellous second half performance that saw them overturn a four-point deficit to win by one at the end of a thrilling encounter - an unbroken run of 1-6 they hit early in the second half of that game saw them turn a five point deficit into a five point lead with 12 minutes left.

While Ballyhaunis did reel them in over the final ten minutes, when it was all there to be won Cosgrove came up with the clutch moment and they will know that if things are tight at the end tomorrow, they have the ability in their locker to dig it out when it counts. While Cosgrove was the hero hitting seven points in the Mayo final, they pack plenty of attacking punch from others with Tommy Conroy scoring a majestic goal and finishing up the day with 1-2 at the end of the Mayo decider and Padraic Walsh hitting a vital score late on in that game too.
