Tooreen will be heading back to Athleague on Sunday for the second weekend in a row.
Last Sunday they dispatched the challenge of Roscommon champions Four Roads in style by ten points in the Connacht Intermediate Hurling Championship quarter final, on a score of 0-29 to 0-19; this weekend they will be taking on the London champions Robert Emmetts for a place in the final against the Galway champions.
After not hitting the high notes they might have expected in the Mayo decider against Castlebar Mitchels - Tooreen put in a far more clinical performance last weekend and led 0-16 to 0-10 at the break and went on to add 13 more points in the second half hour to set up this weekend's provincial semi-final.
Sean Kenny was the top scorer for Tooreen, hitting eight points all from placed balls - five from frees, two 65s and one sideline, Fergal Boland hit seven points from play, Shane Boland chipped in with five points - three from frees - and Eoin Delaney had three points to his name at the end for the Blue Devils.
The east Mayo side's opponents will have been using this weekend to recover from their dramatic London county final win over St Gabriel's, where two periods of extra time were needed before the Emmetts' men edged out St Gabriels on a score of 1-25 to 3-17.
Ben Conroy hit half a dozen points for the exiles in their victory, while Benny McCarry hit 1-2 in their win in McGovern Park last weekend - they will be marked men by the Tooreen defence when Sunday comes around.
Tooreen are looking to make it to their third Connacht Intermediate Hurling final in a row, having won the title in 2017, seeing off Ballinderren to create history and become the first Mayo side to lift the title. They reached the final last year again only to lose out to Oranmore Maree, who went on to later claim the All Ireland title.
The east Mayo side will be looking for the likes of Michael Morley and Stephen Coyne to keep things in check at the back, where they will be ably assisted by David Kenny, Conor Henry, John Cassidy and Gary Nolan.
In the middle of the park, Cathal Freeman and Daniel Huane were paired up last weekend and both bring plenty of experience and quality to that sector - while up front, Fergal Boland hit a rich vein of form in scoring from play last weekend and the likes of Sean Regan, Kenny Feeney, Shane Boland and Sean Kenny are all more than capable of getting the scores when needed.
