Spectrum art exhibition in Castlebar Library

Traces is the title of a fresh and engaging new group exhibition of painting, drawing, print and installation that opened in Castlebar Library on Wednesday April 15. This is the second group show by Spectrum Art Group, and showcases the work of the 11 2008 Art and Design Degree graduates of Galway Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT ), Castlebar Campus.

Traces is an exhibition that explores notions of heritage “with a small ‘h’”, and offers a wide range of artistic responses to the theme. The exhibition is the work of Ann Burke, Orla Farrell, Betty Gannon, Síle Lally, Philip McKinney, Lorraine O’Donoghue, Vida Pain, Marie Padden, Frankie Ralph-O’Malley, Moira Stratford and Ian Wieczorek. With a wide range of styles, approaches and techniques, there’s sure to be something to everyone’s taste. And with an eye to previous achievements, who knows what success the future holds for this talented group of emerging artists? The exhibition was officially opened by John Mulloy, Lecturer in Art History and Critical Theory at GMIT. The exhibition runs until Wednesday April 29 , and is open during Library hours.
