Last Saturday night saw an epic night of music come to Castlebar as the Finbar Hoban Presents series bought Ireland’s up and coming band Dirty Epics to Bar Ritz, Kicking off the night in spectacular fashion local band Orphan Alien bought their unique sound of heavy rock music, sounding at times very much like Rage Against The Machine with lead vocalist Shane Cunningham sounding very much like Zack de la Rocha. Look out for more from Orphan Alien in the future as the boys plan to play more shows around Castlebar in the future and are also heading back in to the studio to record new material in the coming months.
The Zen Yetis made a very welcome return to Bar Ritz, bringing their unique fuzzy guitar sound, playing tracks from recently recorded ep such as “Tricky”, “Bloodshot” and the very likeable “Man in a Rage”. The band has never failed to impress and at Bar Ritz last Saturday night The Zen Yetis Rocked Bar Ritz to the very core. Lead singer Dave Cassidy plans to move to Norway for the next few months, he is wished the very best from all his bandmates and family. Expect The Zen Yetis to return to Castlebar in the future.
Surprise guests of the night were The Hardy Bucks. There were lots of rumours floating around Mayo that these guys were to make a special appearance at Bar Ritz to do a stand-up comedy act over the past couple of days, and just after 11.30pm last Saturday night The Hardy Bucks took to the stage .
The Hardy Bucks show has taken youtube by storm, it follows the lives of four lazy but likeable lads from Castletown, Co Mayo, as they try to make enough money to make a fresh start in “The big smoke”.ie Galway. The team behind the hapless foursome are relative newcomers to the industry but have been producing short dramas for the web over the past few years, the show is written by Martin Maloney amd Chris Tordoff (Hardy Productions ). The next round of voting for the lads to get there show up on RTE Television will be between April 27 and May 4 so remember to get on to Youtube and start voting and support your local Mayo talent. Remember The Hardy Bucks will return to Bar Ritz in the next few months. Dirty Epics took to the stage just after midnight playing tracks from their recent album Straight in no Kissing such as “The Cure”, “Were Coming Up” and “Reaction”, Sarah Jane Wai Oflynn dressed to kill and looking more and more like David Bowie’s sister from his Ziggy Stardust era. This lady really knows how to impress a crowd, from the moment of their introduction to the very end Sarah Jane had the audience in her hands, tearing up and down the stage as if her life depended on it. Dirty Epics will return to Castlebar in the next few months with the help of Bar Ritz and Finbar Hoban Presents. Finbar would like to thank the following that worked so hard to make the night a success, Keith Mcgreal Photography, Karen Conway, Garret Waldron, Chris Rippingale, Westcoast Audio and the staff of Bar Ritz. There are lots more entertainment to come as the music continues with Story Of Hair, Percolator and Black Robots coming soon. Watch this space.
