Springtime Concert in Ballinrobe Community School

On Thursday April 23 the Mayo Male Voice Choir and Ballinrobe native tenor Sean Costello are joining forces to stage a very special concert in Ballinrobe Community School. The choir has just performed its Spring Concert over two nights, playing to packed houses in the Linenhall Theatre Castlebar.

The Mayo Male Voice Choir which has a number of members from Ballinrobe and the surrounding area, will be performing a very diverse choice of music from it’s extensive repertoire. In addition to classics such as “Soldiers Song” from Il Trovatore and “With Cat Like Tread” from the Pirates of Penzance, they will also sing modern classics like “Under the Boardwalk”, “This Is My Song” and “The West’s Asleep”.

Sean Costello is one of the most highly regarded tenors in Ireland. He has appeared with many musical societies all over Ireland and has won the prestigious Best Male Voice award on five occasions. Sean has played the lead role in the European premiere of The Scarlet Pimpernel performed at Waterford Light Opera Festival. He is best known for his musical tributes to Broadway and West End musicals. Earlier this year he received widespread acclaim for his performances as Anatoly in the Ballinrobe Musical Society presentation of Chess.

All singers and musicians are donating their time to make this concert a fundraiser for the Community School. The concert also has another dimension as Michael Brett the school Principal points out: “This concert has a two-fold purpose, firstly to raise badly needed funds for the school and secondly, it is part of the school’s remit to contribute to the life of the community. The rich cultural life of Ballinrobe will be further enriched by concerts such as this,” he said. The concert which will begin at 8pm is being staged in the school auditorium. Tickets are €12 for adults and €6 for senior citizens and students, and are available from Ballinrobe Community School on 094 954 1777, Martin Murphy’s Newsagent 094 954 1064 and Walkins Gift Shop 094 954 1115.
