The quarter-final stage of the Calor Gas Super Cup will take centre stage this weekend with all four games down for decision on Sunday.
The meeting of Super League champions Castlebar Celtic and Ballina Town in Celtic Park is the plum tie of the round, when they meet on Sunday morning at 11am in the county town.
Last weekend Celtic kept up their great run of form with a 5-1 win over Glenhest Rovers in the third round of the FAI Junior Cup - with Jordan Loftus continuing his run in front of the goal, hitting his sixth hat-trick in seven games - bagging four goals in this win. The game was level at 1-1 at the break, but in the second half Celtic stepped up the pace with Loftus hitting three more goals in the final 45 minutes to go with the goal he got in the first half and Jason Hunt getting the fifth goal in Celtic's haul.
Their opponents on Sunday were beaten 3-0 by Westport United in their FAI Junior Cup clash last weekend with Eoin Conway and Darren Browne getting their first two goals before Tim Campion hit their third in injury time to send the north Mayo men packing from the national competition. This weekend Mick Duffy's men will look to pick up the pieces when they take on the Hoops' on Sunday morning.
Manulla will travel to a Swinford side who were promoted to the top flight from the Premier League this season and they warmed up for their trip to James McEvaddy Park after a 3-1 win over League Two outfit Moy Villa at home last weekend. Their goals came from Enda McGahon and Darragh Byrne with Dan Beya getting the third goal before the break.
Ballyglass, who booked their place in the last eight with a 1-0 away Westport United at home in the previous round - thanks to a Conor Keane goal - will be welcoming Straide and Foxford United to Keaveny Park on Sunday. The visitors were relegated from the Super League a few weeks ago after they went down to Ballyhaunis Town in a play-off. They reversed that result a fortnight ago with a 6-3 to set up this quarter-final time. When the sides met in the league this season their most recent game ended in a 2-2 draw, but Ballyglass did run out 10-0 winners in their first meeting in central Mayo back in April.
The final quarter final clash down for decision is the meeting of Claremorris and Snugboro United in Concannon Park. In round one the visitors had a 6-5 win over Ballina Town B to send them into the last eight, with Jonathon Walsh grabbing a brace in that game, while Claremorris got a bye into this round of the competition and their last outing was a 2-0 loss to Castlebar Celtic in the second round of the FAI Junior Cup back at the end of September.
There are also ten Mayo sides in action in the second round of the TP Brennan Connacht Cup, Premier League winners Ballina Town B will be at home to Roscommon and District League second division outfit Manor United who sit in sixth place in their division after five games. Moy Villa and Kiltimagh-Knock United will face off in an all Mayo League derby in Attymass, while Glenhest Rovers and Partry Athletic will also meet in an all Mayo affair .
