Calleary confirms progress on Ballina Flood Relief Scheme

Mayo Fianna Fail TD, Dara Calleary, has confirmed that progress is being made on the proposed provision of flood alleviation measures in Ballina. Deputy Calleary raised the issue on the floor of Dáil Éireann last week.

"Residents of Bachelors Walk, Arbuckle Row, Clare Street and Howley Terrace are living in constant fear of a repeat of the devastating floods they experienced four years ago and I have vigorously pursued the Flood Relief Scheme on their behalf," explained Deputy Calleary.

"In reply to a Parliamentary Question that I placed last week, the Minister for Public Expenditure & Reform has confirmed that the project team for the Ballina Flood Relief Scheme is currently in the process of procuring Engineering and Environmental Consultants to progress the design and planning of the scheme. It is envisaged that consultants will be appointed in late 2019/early 2020 at which stage a programme and more information on the scheme will become available.

"I will be closely monitoring this situation to ensure that the time-frames outlined by the Minister are adhered to and that the scheme proceeds as planned," stated Deputy Calleary.
