Enjoy a full programme of 'spooktacular' events this Midterm
The National Museum of Ireland - Country Life is delighted to announce a full programme of Halloween events and activities, taking place from October 26 to November 3 at Turlough Park, Castlebar.
Most events and activities are free although booking may be required where numbers are limited - and include the following:
Spooky Tours
Learn about changelings, fairies, banshees and bogeymen on this special tour of the National Folklife Collection with Brendan McDonnell. Tours take place from 2.30 to 3.30pm on 29 October, 31 October, and 1 November. Suitable for families. Admission free. Booking required.
Pumpkin patch hunt
Pick up a map at Museum Reception to enjoy a pumpkin patch hunt in the gardens. Find all of the pumpkins to solve the riddle and complete the challenge. This family activity is available from October 26 to November 3. Admission free. No booking required.
We’ve Gone Batty about Bats!
Learn all about bats at this junior workshop with the National Parks and Wildlife Services at 11.30am and 2pm on Wednesday, October 30. See how they hunt, what they eat and why some of the things you’ve heard about these important flying mammals may be nothing more than myth. Suitable for children aged three to six years. Booking required.
Spooky Tales of an Irish Halloween
How do you get away if the fairies catch you? What would you do if the devil himself were to pay you a visit? Join master storyteller Rab Fulton for some spooky tales about an Irish Halloween. There are three storytelling sessions at 10am, 11.30am and 2pm on Friday, November 1. Suitable for families. Admission free. Booking required.
Odious Objects trail
Learn about some ‘odious objects’ in the exhibition galleries with this fun, family trail. Pick up an activity sheet at reception and solve the clues to locate each odious object. Solve the final clue to collect a prize at Reception (while stocks last ). This family activity is available from October 26 to November 3. Admission free. No booking required.
Spookie Cookies
Join the staff at Brambles Café for a Spookie Cookies activity between 11am and 3pm on Friday November 1. Decorate your Hallowe’en themed cookie and enjoy a hot chocolate while you do some ‘spooktacular’ colouring. Cost is €5 per child. No booking required.
