RoolaBoola children’s arts season now stretches to December

RoolaBoola Children’s Arts Festival at the Linenhall Arts Centre is 20 years old!

Top notch arts experiences for children are a central part of the Linenhall’s offerings in line with their “Arts for all at the Linenhall” ethos. This year sees a new development for RoolaBoola with the festival now becoming a season of events extending from September right through to December, including theatre and music shows, a visual art exhibition and a range of arts workshops for schools and public audiences.

"It’s an exciting development for us. It will give us greater flexibility in relation to dates, which in turn will enable us to avail of a greater range of top quality touring shows" said Orla Henihan, Arts Access Officer at the Linenhall.

One of the highlights of this year’s season is Rockin’ Rhymes, a rock-n-roll adventure for music lovers aged two to 102 created by Branar Téatar do Pháistí. Taking place on the Saturday of the October Bank Holiday weekend this show is designed specifically for audiences aged two years and upwards and their families and is a captivating musical performance.

It re-imagines well-loved rhymes such as Rock-a-Bye Baby and Twinkle Twinkle with bluesy, rock and jazz twists while blending them with Branar’s signature storytelling style. Performed by a band of five musicians and accompanied by animated illustrations by Achill based artist Maeve Clancy, this feel-good live music gig will have both children and adults alike jiving to the beat of these well-known classics.

The First Five National Consultation with Young Children on A Whole-of-Government Strategy for Babies, Young Children and their Families, sought to find out what was important to young children. One of the key messages from children aged three to five years was that "being with and doing activities with parents, siblings, grandparents" was very important. What better way to enjoy yourselves together than go to a music show designed specifically for families with young children!

Rockin’ Rhymes takes place at the Linenhall Arts Centre Castlebar on Saturday, October 26 at 11am and 2pm. For full details about RoolaBoola Children’s Arts Season and booking call (094 ) 9023733 or see www.thelinenhall.com
