Anne Walsh Donnelly will read from her debut short story collection in GMIT Mayo Campus Library on Wednesday, October 16 at 7pm. Guest speaker author, poet and playwright John Corless will launch the collection.
Anne works as Student Services Officer at GMIT Mayo campus and writes in her spare time. She has been published widely and was nominated for the Hennessy/Irish Times literary award for her poetry and is also the author of the poetry chapbook, The Woman With An Owl Tattoo.
Irish author and poet, Geraldine Mills says of the collection; "Demise of the Undertaker’s Wife is an impressive debut from Anne Walsh Donnelly. With her close observation of the human psyche, her razor-sharp pen delineates the world of murder, cruelty, control, with an eye that is sharp, unsettling and clearly demonstrates her lyrical talent.
"She shines a spotlight on the brokenness of life, the fear of silence and the desperate need for the characters to find someone to communicate with, whether it is with Iscariot or the Angel Gabriel. The voices are always true and convincing. I still cannot get the demise of the poor undertaker’s wife out of my head. That’s exactly what a good short story should do."
The launch promised to be an exciting and entertaining event. Listening to Anne read is a rare treat. She is a popular performer of her work and has read at many prestigious literary events including the Over The Edge Culture Night and the International Festival of Literature in Dublin. All are welcome. Signed copies will be available to purchase on the night.
