Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring confirmed this week that the Government has allocated €300,000 to support the opening of the new Mayo Hospice in Castlebar.
Minister Ring said: “It has been confirmed to me by my colleague, Minister Simon Harris T.D., Minister for Health, that €300,000 is being allocated through the HSE to Mayo Hospice. This will enable the new hospice to open its specialist palliative care inpatient unit in Castlebar towards the end of the year. I would like to compliment Mayo Roscommon Hospice, and in particular, Martina Jennings, CEO, Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, for bringing this project in on time and under budget. It will be a wonderful facility for the people of Mayo and will no doubt provide great support and comfort to patients and their families. Martina and the Mayo Hospice team deserve particular credit for raising the significant capital funding needed to build this facility. I am glad that this support from the Government will enable it to open its doors and begin its work.”
