Kilcoyne derelict building motion added to agenda

Independent Cllr Michael Kilcoyne succeeded in getting a notice of motion added to the agenda for this week's September meeting of Mayo County Council. Cllr Kilcoyne had put forward a motion asking that: "The Chief Executive prepares a written report on the derelict buildings owned by Mayo County Council in Castlebar town and list such buildings. In relation to the Imperial Hotel, the old post office, the old library, what proposals does he have to bring those buildings back into use, the cost, the time frame and the proposed use for each building. What funding has been applied for to refurbish those three buildings and when were the applications made (if any ) and what was the outcome. This report to be circulated to the members in advance of the October 2019 meeting." Cllr Kilcoyne said that he had submitted the motion on August 28 and was informed it was out of order and it would be submitted to the Castlebar Municipal District - however Cllr Kilcoyne said the subject had been discussed on numerous occasions already by at that forum. He was seconded by Cllr Christy Hyland to have the item placed on the agenda - which was agreed to by the Cathaoirleach Cllr Brendan Mulory. Fine Gael Cllr Michael Burke commented that he had no problem with the motion, but there was now an open page for motions to be added at meetings.
