Claremorris Agricultural Show 2019 promises a family day out not to be missed

The Claremorris Agricultural Show Committee is once again gearing up for the annual show this weekend on Sunday August 4 – the 101st agricultural show to be held in Claremorris – and now one of Connacht's premier shows.

A unique and iconic event showcasing the best of farming and rural life, the 2019 show will officially be opened by Councillor Tom Connolly on the day at 1pm.

The 2019 show promises to be a wonderful event and the organising committee have made every effort to produce a fantastic day out for all the family. Indeed, the committee hopes it will be a wonderful fun-filled day as people take the opportunity to meet up with family and friends.

In conjunction with the Irish Shows Association they are hosting the All Ireland Pedigree Suckler Type Heifer Championship. This is open to all breeds of qualifying pedigree suckler type heifers and is one of the highlights of the show, drawing entrants from all over Ireland.

The annual event in Claremorris is now recognised as one of the biggest cattle shows in the country, and is getting bigger year by year, with a prize fund of €7,000 thanks to the main Sponsors: Malone’s Farm Machinery, Aurivo, Claremorris Credit Union and Hillside Filling Station.

The show jumping competition, including Puissance, has a prize fund of €5,000 sponsored by Bam Builders Ireland and Its Supply Chain. There are horse and pony classes with a prize fund of over €3,300, as well as a young handler's bonanza prize fund of €500, sponsored by Supermac’s / Papa Johns. There are also classes for donkeys and sheep classes with a prize fund of over €2,000.

On the day there will also be classes in the following sections: garden produce, flowers, jam, eggs, cookery, handicrafts and of course the ever popular art section, with a prize fund of €1,000 which is getting bigger every year sponsored by DeCare Dental, Claremorris. The fowl are also hugely popular with a prize fund of €500.

There will also be a new photographic competition with a special section for the show's 2020 calendar, the dog show will get underway at 2pm and it is expected it will be huge attraction with entries being taken on the day.

Another fun event to take part in is the 'Best Scarecrow' competition for families, with a €100 prize fund and cup up for grabs, sponsored by Claremorris Credit Union.

There will be lots of entertainment acts on the day taking to the main stage, starting at 2pm with the Mayo Manchester Tradfest performers accompanied by Alan Keegan. From 3pm to 5pm Jimmy Buckley and his band will be entertaining the masses - there will also be a fashion show with Mandy Maher from Cat Walk Agency in the Style Emporium Marquee which will feature pop-up shops, make-up demonstrations and stands, with all your favourite beauty products..

Back again by Popular demand, Celebrity TV Chef, Adrian Martin – sponsored by McWilliam Park Hotel, will provide cookery demonstrations throughout the day. These will be held alongside the food village which is an intimate and vibrant space for food producers and retailers to showcase, offer tastings and to retail at the show.

Also featuring - Disney like Simulator, Bubble Soccer, Wipe Out, Kick-Boxing, Stilt Walkers, Jugglers, Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Spider Man, Paw Patrol, Frozen and Mobile Pet Farm and you can shop till you drop in the indoor exhibition hall with an extensive range of stands.

There will also be a best dressed lady competition with the prize sponsored by Jack Dylan Jewellers. For the football enthusiasts, there will be televisions in the main exhibition hall to watch the football matches.

For children there will be free admission, free pony rides, free face painting, free bouncy castle sponsored by Smyths Toy Store and a free pet farm. With the above line-up of events the committee is confident the 2019 show will be the biggest and most enjoyable to date.

The organisation of the annual event requires the combined efforts and co-operation of the officers, committee, stewards, sponsors, exhibitors and judges to make it the huge success people have come to expect on Show Day. The show is a great family day out, Admission €10.
