Covie Week continues in Westport with old photos and film in Westport Town Hall on this evening Friday, July 26, at 8pm. All welcome, admission free.
Westport Columban priest, Willie Spicer’s anniversary Mass, is in St Mary’s Church at 11am on Saturday July 27 while a ‘Folk Club’ style afternoon of music, song and stories will be held in Matt Molloy’s at 3.30pm to honour Covie Week founder, Martin Curry, a great music lover.
That evening at 7.30pm O’Cee’s Coffee Shop is the venue for The Big Picture. Frank O’Reilly will explain how he created the ‘huge’ reproductions of the famous Lawrence Collection Westport photos that hang on O’Cee’s walls. Historian John Mayock will speak about the pictures.
A Remembrance Hour led by An tAthair Micheál MacGréil will be held in Aughavale Cemetery at 3pm on Sunday 28th – Reek Sunday. This will be a prayerful, respectful blessing bestowed on those gone before us, honouring their memory with a prayer, a poem, a song and gentle silence.
On Monday, July 29, in the Plaza Hotel at 8pm, archaeologist Leo Morahan will give a presentation on the Bohea Stone - its past and future. On Tuesday, July 30, in the same venue at 8pm, join Dympna Joyce in Tracing Your Ancestors, for those interested in the Family Tree.
On Wednesday July 31 at 8pm in the Plaza Hotel, Westport native John O’Callaghan will give a presentation called Rewilding – The Wild Nephin Wilderness Project. John will outline the story about rewilding Nephin and the notion of rewilding in general.
