Emma Langford to kick off FOLKIZM in Garbos

Tomorrow night, Saturday July 6, Garbo’s - in conjunction with Greenroom Bookings - launch a brand new night of quality live music called FOLKIZM.

FOLKIZM will showcase new and established Irish Folk Music talent who will perform in the recently refurbished surroundings of Castlebar’s premier live music venue.

Opening night promises a fantastic evening’s entertainment with Limerick’s highly acclaimed singer/songwriter, Emma Langford, to take to the stage with her full band.

After its official launch on Saturday, July 6, FOLKIZM will then go weekly on Friday nights at Garbo’s.

Hailing from Limerick City, Emma Langford’s fusion of home-grown brazen wit and piercingly insightful lyrics have created an enthralling on-stage presence for which the young artist has become so well known at home and abroad. With a whirlwind 100-date tour across Austria, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, the UK and Ireland already under her belt, there is no denying Langford is hitting her stride and showing no signs of slowing down.

Langford’s sound is made to be heard live, be it solo or with a full complement of musicians. She possesses a distinct natural tone and resonance that is truly breath-taking. Noted for a distinct vocal timbre that dances playfully among the nuances of “folk”; Emma Langford’s voice is at once defiant yet ethereal; her lyrics insightful, yet loaded with wit and whimsy. Comparisons are often drawn in style and sound to artists such as Joni Mitchell and Janis Ian.

The self-made songwriter comes to Castlebar this July with a headline show at Garbos, Castlebar, tomorrow night, as part of her international summer tour. This will be her first headline show for Mayo, and she will be joined by members of the Quiet Giant band, Lucia and Maria fiddle duo and Mayo artist, Gráinne Fahy, on the night.
