Mayo woman launches Hi Tech next generation training platform

A new start-up that reinvents how online training is delivered - using Augmented Reality - has just been launched by Hollymount native, Siobhan Leonard.

Leonard plans to create 17 new Hi-Tech jobs in two years, with her new company Acornstar, that she formed with her husband Cathal. Their all-new online platform and smartphone app reinvents how online and digital learning is delivered. The new courses offer learners the option to scan images while doing online training, using a free smartphone app while watching as 3D models come to life in front of them.

The business also offers views of full construction site table top augmented reality 3D safety training from a smartphone, by scanning images with the app. These 3D models will soon be available to experience in a mixed reality environment, by using special glasses, that combine graphics and information in the real world. These interactions make the learning experience fun and engaging and add a whole other dimension to the learning experience.

Siobhan Leonard, worked as a Health and Safety consultant and trainer internationally, implementing standards for large engineering organisations while Cathal Leonard has worked creating video content promoting Irish tourism and golf abroad, working with large international companies such as Rolex and The Golf Channel. The two have combined their talents to create this next generation online learning platform.

The couple say that: "The days of expecting people to sit through hours of old-fashioned boring online training are over. We have used a range of the latest technologies to deliver a one-of-a kind interactive learning experience.

"Our micro-learning solutions also allow workers to complete training, by scanning images placed at critical areas that deliver short AR, videos and interactive training modules instantly to them. This helps promote health and safety awareness and prevents accidents.”

All their courses are Internationally approved and certified, and can easily be completed online with or without the app.
