A feast of music in Swinford for the Connacht Fleadh Cheoil

The Michael Davitt Branch of CCÉ will host the Connacht Fleadh Cheoil 2019 in Swinford on Saturday, July 6 and Sunday, July 7 with the Fleadh Festival Week beginning with Oíche Cheoil on Monday night, July 1, in the Coffee Doc.

Síle Uí Mhongáin is guest at the Singing Club on Tuesday night in Melletts’ with an invitation to all singers. Acclaimed group BLÁS and a local support act are in concert in the Cultural Centre on Wednesday, July 3.

The official opening, by Brendan Mulroy, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, is on Thursday night, July 4, with a music session to follow. A Céilí Mór with the Swallow’s Tail Céili Band is planned for Friday night. On Saturday, July 6, enjoy an all day open music session in the Courthouse with the Fleadh Mass that evening. Later that night, All Ireland Champions, Joseph McNulty and Cillian Doheny are in concert in the Gateway.

The Midfield Pipe Band will give a recital on Sunday and competing marching bands will perform on Main Street. Expect the usual Fleadh impromptu sessions on the streets and in the pubs. When the competitions are over, ALFI with Alannah Thornburgh, followed by Fr. James Mc Donagh and friends, will close the Fleadh on Sunday, July 7.
