Atlantic Notes hits Westport Town Hall Theatre

Atlantic Notes is a show dedicated to music, song, story and dance along the Wild Atlantic Way. It will run for Tuesday nights in Westport Town Hall for the summer.

“I have recruited some of the best musicians in the business and most hail from Mayo so they know exactly what the Wild Atlantic Way is all about!” said Producer Tom Lynskey.

Atlantic Notes originated in the mind of Lynskey, a native of Kilmaine in Co Mayo, some time ago. A keen musician himself, he always wanted to come up with something unique and different in terms of a show. Having seen for some time so many three-piece groups having lots of success both locally and internationally, he felt there was an opening to inject some power into this beautiful sound.

As the Wild Atlantic Way stretches from Donegal all the way down to Cork, Atlantic Notes bring a flavor of music, song, story and dance to the stage where visitors to Ireland and locals alike can witness what life along the west coast is really like.

Actor Noel Kelly delivers what must be described as a serious, yet truly accurate and funny side to Irish life along the Wild Atlantic Way, weaved in through the music and dance from our world class musicians and dancers.

Without giving too much away, Noel becomes a hard working fisherman from Donegal in the opening scene who tips his hat to WB Yeats in Sligo. He also gives a loud shout out as a troubled Mayo supporter in Mayo. A Connemara man is featured and a grumpy sheep farmer from Kerry who’s not a fan of Star Wars!

Marianne Knight oversees the musical side of this show with well-known pianist and musical director John Flatley. Marianne is a multi-instrumentalist with a voice and feet that are made for the stage. Hot Press magazine recently commented that ‘Her clear, bright voice and crisp ornamentation make her one of the most exciting vocalists to come along in years.’

Most recently, Marianne has been singing with a traditional Irish group, ‘FullSet’ and has performed with the musical theatre group ‘Celtic Crossroads’ at home and in the USA. She has performed with many great artists internationally including, Solas, Cherish The Ladies, Ceide, Eileen Ivers, Mairtin O’Connor, Seamie O’Dowd, Brendan Graham, UCD Chorale Scholars, Eimear Quinn, Celine Byrne and now, Full Set.

Other performers lined up for Atlantic notes include Declan O Donoghue on percussion, Karen Hickey on Fiddle, Richard Neylon on Pipes with other surprise guest musicians and dancers set to appear in this amazing journey along the Wild Atlantic Way

The show is running right throughout the summer in the Town Hall Theatre in Westport on Tuesday nights from Tuesday, June 4. Tickets are available at the box office 09828459 or book online at www.westporttheatre.com
