There are many sporting achievements of note; in baseball it’s a no-hitter, in cricket it’s a century, and in golf it’s a hole-in-one. To achieve these goals at any stage in your career is special but to do so on your debut;,that my friend is the “coup de grâce”. There were many this weekend; Federico Macheda scoring for United, Liam Treadwell winning the National on his first ride, and Blaine Lynch playing in the Fred Daly scores an ace at Carrick-On-Shannon. There is more information about the landings at Roswell back in the summer of ’47 than there is about the shot but all that matters to the members of Westport Golf Club is that it happened. Well done Blaine.
In other news, Christy Madigan’s team won the winter league. A reminder also, that the closing date for entry into the Murtagh Foursomes is April 14.
All roads lead to Westport for the Easter Open Weekend. A combined ladies’ and gents’ single Stableford “counting” competition will take place on the Friday, Saturday, and Bank Holiday Monday; with a separate ladies’ and gents’ fourball betterball taking place on Easter Sunday.
