Thirty five choirs will take part in the ever-popular Mayo International Choral Festival which will include several evening performances with stellar line-ups in venues all over Mayo, as well as pop-up mini performances on the Songway Choral Trail and competitions during the day, the festival runs from Wednesday, May 22 to Sunday, May 26.
The festival continues to have International participation, with two choirs from the USA, and one from Canada, as well as choirs from all over Ireland and Mayo. All events, including competitions, are open to a public audience.
Highlights include: Concerts each evening at 8pm, featuring visiting and Mayo choirs: Ballina Arts Centre, Thursday May 16 (opening event ). COE Concert Choir, USA. Ballintubber Abbey, Wednesday May 22. St Mary-of-the-Woods Choir, USA and the Dunmore Choir, Galway. Castlebar Church of the Holy Rosary, Thursday May 23, St Albert’s Singers, Canada. Swinford Church. Friday May 24, Cór Fingal and Lady Barbarlade, Dublin. Westport Holy Trinity Church Friday May 24. North Dublin Community Gospel Choir and St Mary-of-the-Woods Choir, USA. Gala Concert (featuring all winning choirs ), Friday May 25, GMIT Castlebar (advance ticket purchase recommended for Gala ).
Competitions will take place in the GMIT and Christchurch, Castlebar, Satuday, May 25. The festival is supported by Mayo County Council and Castlebar Municipal District.
