Ballina's Liam McHale was one of six players inducted to the Basketball Ireland Hall of fame last weekend.

McHale was part of the great Ballina teams of the 1990s who won two national cups and national league title. He spoke of his honour of being inducted to the Hall of Fame saying: “It’s been a wonderful day, I am delighted. This isn’t just an individual award, there was a huge community behind us, we had great support and a great committee and it means an awful lot. We had the time of our lives doing it, and we were lucky we got to compete with some of the best teams.”

With award winners from across the game and across the players, coaches, officials, schools and leagues, the event also acknowledged four President’s Lifetime Achievement awards for Andrew Drumm, Joe Byrne (RIP ), Joey Boylan and Donal O’Connor. Six people were then inducted into the Basketball Ireland Hall of Fame: Siobhán Caffrey, Danny Fulton, Liam McHale, Susan Moran, Paudie O’Connor (RIP ) and Kelvin Troy.
