CCTV cameras top of the list of priorities for Claremorris town –Warde

Sinn Féin candidate in the Claremorris area, Natasha Warde, has highlighted the need to install CCTV cameras in the town of Claremorris, after a number of complaints were made to her on the doorsteps.

Warde explained that quite a number of people have reported illegal dumping and anti social behaviour in public places such as Clare Lake and Claremorris playground.

She said: "These facilities and amenities in our town are for everyone to enjoy and must be respected in order to ensure that everyone can avail of these facilities, every effort must be made to combat this behaviour and monitoring activity with the use of CCTV has proved to be very successful in other towns."

On researching the issue, Warde reveals that CCTV cameras have been installed in Ballinrobe town since 2012 and it is claimed that there has been a 90% reduction in crime since this installation.

She stated: "With a population of almost 4,500 people, it’s about time we had a more adequate and comprehensive monitoring system in our town so that our residents feel free to use our facilities and amenities in a clean and safe environment.”
