Three WhistleBlast Quartet Composition Programme Final Performances featuring students of all musical abilities and backgrounds, are set to take place over the coming months.
Marking the culmination of several months of creative and innovative composition workshops and live performances, the students, including special needs groups, will be performing for 'The Greatest Challenge', with concerts to take place in Siamsa Tire, Tralee, Ballina Arts Centre, Ballina, Mayo and the National Concert Hall, Dublin.
The WhistleBlast Quartet, (Ken Edge, Conor Linehan, Oonagh Keogh and Mary Curran ) Nationwide Composition Programme, kicked off with concerts and workshops facilitated by the Quartet in The Studio, NCH , Ballina Arts Centre, Siamsa Tíre and integrated young students and special needs groups.
The Quartet worked with six secondary and special schools and in Mayo this included Balla and Swinford secondary schools and St Dymphna’s in Ballina, to deliver a highly motivating and creative experience for many young students, giving them a chance to come up close with professional musicians as well as discover the worth of live music.
Through this unique programme the students gained new access to understanding the depths of musical possibilities. Students will create and compose the final performance piece through percussion, choral, rapping and instrumental groups.
