The campaign to rebuild Ballinrobe Town Hall enters a new phase with site investigation work set to take place at the site.
Ballinrobe Town Hall chairperson, Michael Sweeney, said: "People will see machinery on the site very soon, and while they might think the building is starting, we’re not quite at that stage – but the fact that we are now at site investigation work is very positive. Site investigation is important in terms of preparing for the tendering process. We hope to tender for the contract to build the hall inside the next few months."
Over €370,000 has been raised locally and the committee has been pursuing various other funding avenues. The proposal is to build a hall with a gross floor area of 1000m2. It will consist of an auditorium and main hall area with seating for over 400 people. Additionally, there will be a provision for balcony seating at first floor level.
The plans were drawn up by Ballinrobe-based chartered architectural and planning consultant Donal McCormack. Planning permission for the hall was granted in late 2015.
