Pool costs concern councillors

The cost of using the new swimming pool in Castlebar is causing serious concern to members of the public according to a number of councillors.

At the April meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District which took place this week - a number of elected members voiced concerns over the cost of using the new pool by members of the public.

All were full of praise for the facility and said that was it badly needed in the town to replace the old swimming pool - but were concerned about the pricing structures around it and members of the public had been communicating it to them the doorsteps.

The long awaited multi-million swimming pool located at Lough Lannagh opened recently, but since the pricing structures had been announced there has been a lot of public discourse over the cost to use the facility.

Particular ire has been directed at the fact that patrons can not have pay for a single use of the pool only - with the single use pricing costing €10 which covers both a swim and use of the gym facilities with no swim only option available for single use customers, with an option of ten swim sessions for €70 the only available swim only option.

The councillors called for a the pricing policy to be looked at by the council.
