Second stage of Breaffy sewerage scheme in doubt unless residents sign up to phase one - warns Burke

Fine Gael councillor, Cyril Burke, has called on residents in Breaffy, Castlebar, to sign up for the new sewerage scheme in the village before the deadline closes on Monday, April 1, warning that otherwise, the second stage of the scheme may not go ahead.

Cllr Burke said this week: “We need to have an uptake of 70 per cent of residents to sign up to the new scheme or the second phase will not go ahead, currently there are only in the region of 50 per cent of residents signed up to the new scheme.

“The scheme is something that has been fought for, for a long time in the village and it would be a shame for the second stage of the scheme not to go ahead. The cost of joining the scheme is €1,000, which is great value for residents, and the fee will increase fourfold after Monday for new entrants; and even when people register they will have a number of months to pay the €1,000 fee. It is a great opportunity for the whole of Breaffy and should not be missed out on."
