A delegation from Mayo County Council participated in the St Patricks Day parade in Philadelphia on Sunday last with the Mayo Association of Philadelpia, which had Mayo man Sean McMenamin as its grand Marshal for the 2019 parade.
Mayo County Council's delegation was comprised of Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr Michael Loftus, Cllr Henry Kenny, chief executive Peter Hynes and head of enterprise John Magee.
While in Philadelphia the delegation met the Mayor of Philadelphia, Mayor Kenney, who has Mayo roots and attended the launch of The Littus programme - a ‘soft-landing’ platform for small Irish businesses with capacity to enter the US export market. The platform provides 40 hours of individually-tailored support for participating businesses, delivered on both sides of the Atlantic. Based in Philadelphia, the programme has the capacity to offer business development services, legal, accounting and other supports that an Irish business might require in establishing a foothold in the US market.
The Mayo delegation also visited New York for a series of events including the New York St Patrick's day Parade where again a Mayo Man, Brian O Dywer was the Grand Marshal.
