There was no rest for the Mustangs who faced into two games over five days in the past week - but they kept up their winning ways, seeing off both the Castlerea Cosmos and Mohill respectively.
In their first game in their double header, they travelled to Roscommon last Thursday, to take on Castlerea Cosmos where they ran out 24 point winners over the hosts on a score of 58-34. The trip to Castlerea was the last away game of the season for Mustangs. The game was played in the Castlerea Enterprise Hub under the watchful eye of the local fans, however, the 10 Mustangs made the viewing less than desirable for the home side. Mustangs led at the end of the quarter by 16 points to 6, running a flowing game and 6 points from Sinead Hughes.
The second quarter brought more punishment for the home side with player-coach Siobhan Kilkenny popping 3’s and Indre Gusciuviene scoring 6 points, following massive offensive rebounds. The half time score was 37-12.
The Mustangs’ third quarter had less pace but they still led at the end of the third 48-27, with more three point shooting from Kilkenny and confident finishing by posts Niamh Griffin and Lorna Moran.
By the end of the fourth quarter all ten players on the Mustang squad had added to the team tally and the closing basket by Sheila Cunningham saw the final score line read 58-34 to the Mustangs.
In their second of this run of games, Mustangs ran out 88-36 winners over visitors Mohill. Mustangs showed great fluidity in this game and with Grainne Flynn temporarily out injured, Mary Joyce took on the mantle of the number six jersey.
Lorna Moran opened the scoring for the Mustangs in this game but it was player-coach Siobhan Kilkenny’s 13 point tally that was an indicator of what was to come from the Mustangs on the night. Sheila Cunningham settled into her starting position nicely adding to the Mustang end of quarter score line of 24 - 8 to the home side.
Mustangs shot consistently throughout the quarters with Ciara Griffin and Sinead Hughes making a big impression on this quarter and the half time score board reading 43-19 in favour of the Mustangs, then in full gallop.
Mary Joyce started the second half for the Mustangs and played some well controlled basketball, before suffering a fall injury that took her out for the remainder of the game. Meanwhile, Anita Hoban and Orla Brennan were adding to the Mustangs' tally and a selfless, Indre Majauskaite-Gusciuviene was impossible to stop under the boards for rebounds both offensively and defensively. The quarter finished 64-23 to Mustangs.
With the league title being decided two weeks ago against Longford Falcons, this game was also decided by the start of the third quarter and some more impressive shooting from Kilkenny, Hughes and Cunningham as well as continued strong rebounding by Gusciuviene, meant the finish line was a league high of 88 points to 36 to the home side.
