Disqualifications for women who parked in disabled spaces

Two women who parked in disabled car parking spaces in Castlebar were both disqualified from driving for one year at Castlebar District Court this week.

Mary Collins, 35 Luí Na Gréine, Claremorris, was detected by the traffic warden parked in a disabled spot in the Castle Street Car Park on June 5 2008 without a disabled permit. A fixed penalty notice failed to be paid.

The same month on June 30, Lena Mulchrone, Derrylahan, Newport, had her car parked in a disabled spot in the Market Square car park with no permit displayed. No fixed charge penalty was paid.

Both women, who were not in court nor represented, were convicted and fined €300 each by Judge Mary Devins; directed to pay €150 each for costs and were both disqualified from driving for one year.
